Acne vulgaris – is the most common definition of acne. "Vulgaris" in Latin means "ordinary". Medically, it stands for a skin's oil gland disorder; moreover, generally pimples can be called a skin disease.
Acne can take various forms of severity, which depends on the person's immune system, prevention, treatment, skin care and other factors. Acne vulgaris is usually referred to when speaking of the following disorders: "acne conglobata", "blackhead", "whitehead", "acne cosmetica", "acne fulminants", "acne medicamentosa", "acne rosacea", "comedonal acne", "acne omedones", "cystic acne", "macule", "nodule", "papule" and "pustule".
85% of people who have one or another form of acne are 12-24 years of age. Over time the indications of the disorder decrease, i. e. only about 8% of people who have acne are 25-34 years old. More severe forms of acne are more frequent among men then women, for e. g. in the age group of 18-28 year olds men outnumber women by one third. However, in the age group of 29-49 year old people women complaint about having acne more often.
This data is based on the research done in the USA and can vary in other countries. The percentage distribution in the age groups clearly indicates only the general tendency. Unfortunately, acne can be the problem of people of all ages, including babies.
Acne disease can spread on various parts of body: face, neck, skin below the hair on the head, back, bosom, genitalia, and legs.
Severe cases of acne cannot be healed within one night or a week, too little time. Moreover, if you are an adult, there exists no best acne treatment. What works for someone, does not necessarily help you. There is also a possibility that you are among a few who do not get relief even with course of strong antibiotics. Indeed, the disease is very individual, thus, acne vulgaris is to be treaded employing multiple methods which should not be limited to the usage of soap, gel or cream only. Unfortunately, the above mentioned means usually do not help in severe cases and can even worsen the condition. You must know that in those difficult cases the widely offered remedies will not help and the treatment might require stronger medicine, one or another form of antibiotics or hormonal drugs.
The aim of this site is not to substitute a dermatologist for you but rather help you understand the information on acne, which is often quite contradictory in various sources. Once you've decided to be relieved of acne you must know well the mechanism of the disorder, the influencing (aggravating) factors and carefully choose the methods of treatment and skin care products which suit you best. In addition, you can also choose a way of prevention, perhaps special diet, if your case is unique.
